About The Game
Safe in Shadow is a passion project made by Skarrynight. The project is the first one that they've made,
and has been a major learning experience to build and create. It was deeply inspired by games like Yume Nikki,
and Petscop The game was a concept that they'd built on for a few years. Originally the concept was a first person
3d horror game, but after playing and growing to love Yume Nikki, they began trying to learn how to make things
in RPGMaker 2003, the same engine that Yume Nikki had been made in. With help from assistant programmer and
friend Shen, they managed to build an early version of the game, heavily leaning on the concept of Yume Nikki
for an idea of what was possible in the engine. Over time they broke away from the concept of the pre-existing
game, and started to build something that was truly their own. Along the way, friend and sound engineer
BullDozer Sounds picked up the task of helping them with the many audio files needed for the project, and
several friends offered to be test players, finding all of the little bugs in the game; These players
being Kat, Harbour, Cas, BumbleBee530, Fox, Muddy, and Becky. Without these players, the game would
be much more of a buggy mess than it is.
Safe in Shadow follows a surreal look at the life of a character named Red. Red is a child living at home with her family
In leaving her home via various possible routes, the player is brought into a bizzare world that doesn't seem to follow the laws
of our own world, and invited to explore upwards of 40 areas, collecting items, and interacting with the strange world that
surrounds them. It follows a walking simulator style gameplay, with simple controls, using only the number keys, arrow keys,
and space bar or enter key.
